Benaldo May Suffer Defeat Against Uy, Comelec Tally Shows

Cagayan de Oro City’s incumbent Congressman Benjamin “Benjo” Benaldo may suffer defeat if the trending of the recent canvassing made by the Commission on Elections continues.

As of last night (May 13) the Comelec tally showed Benaldo getting only 16,832 votes as against challenger, former 1^st district congressman, Rolando “Klarex” Uy who also got 29,584 votes.

“It seems the former congressman is likely to get back the post again if this canvassing continues in favor of him,” says an observer after getting the initial results of the canvassing made by the Comelec.

For the city’s 2^nd Congressional district, challenger and former city councilor Ian Mark Nacaya suffered a beating from incumbent congressman Rufus Rodriguez. The Comelec’s partial tally shows Nacaya grabbing only a total of 13,269 votes as against Rodriguez’s 59,488.

For the mayoralty race, incumbent mayor Vicente Emano may also likely to suffer the same fate as Congressman Benaldo. Moreno was ahead of over 12,000 votes with his 72,428, while the incumbent mayor had only 59,739 votes.

The veteran politician Emano suffered his first defeat with challenger Ruthie Guingona in gubernatorial race in Misamis Oriental province. But Guingona only served her term for more months, as she only won by protest, which usually results when another election is near.

During the last mayoralty race, his political opponent Rolando Uy had accused him of cheating. Uy believed he won. Emano only win by over 2,000 votes, but Emano’s winning was marred with lots of questions as thousands of ballots were allegedly dumped at the city’s landfill, prompting suspicion of election cheating.   
For the vice mayoralty race, incumbent vice mayor Ian Acenas is also beating challenger Ed Cabanlas. Acenas initially had 62,184 votes, while Cabanlas has only 53,809 votes.
