CAGAYAN de Oro city mayor Oscar Moreno told a crowd Tuesday that the city councilors who were his former allies, turned their back on him because he doesn't have campaign funds to offer them in the 2016 polls.
"Gipasaligan man sila ug minilyon na campaign funds. Unsaon taman na wala man koy matunol, serbisyo lang gyud tawon," Moreno said, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 46 classrooms for Bugo National High School on October 6.
Moreno said he has learned his lesson in choosing whom to trust.
"I've learned my lesson. Dili lang diay unta unity na pinalit, kung dili unity na gikan sa kasingkasing," Moreno added.
But Moreno said he has no regrets in letting councilors Eric Salcedo, Roger Abaday, and Teodolfu Lao Jr. go, and not forcing them to stay, since the "split" turned out to be a "blessing in disguise."
He said the councilors' move gave him the opportunity to cleanse the Liberal Party before the elections.
"It appeared to be a setback at first glance, but if you look closer, it actually cleansed the party, we are happy that we will start with new people, new team, new beginning," Moreno said.
"It's about time that we start anew," Moreno added.
Moreno also lashed at second district representative Rufus Rodriguez for claiming the National Government projects as his.
"Although madunggan iyang tingog didto, pero dili kana tungod sa congressman ng mga projects, tungod na sa national government," Moreno argued.
Meanwhile, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Moreno's list of candidates in the coming polls, Local School Board (LSB) members, Department of Education officials, and barangay officials.
The project is worth P67 million, which has been sourced from the LSB's Special Education Fund. - From sunstar.com.ph
