BOC-10 collects P3.9 Billion in 2008, says Macapasir, Mison

By Joel Escol
Top officials of the Bureau of Customs in Northern Mindanao announced a total collection of more than Three Billion Pesos for 2008, bigger than the agency's collection in 2007.

Customs district collector Lawyer Abedin Macapasir in a press statement reported a total collection of Php 3,914,801,866.19 Billion. The total revenue collection for 2008 was credited from its principal port in Cagayan de Oro City, and sub ports in Iligan, Ozamis and Mindanao Container Terminal Port in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
Macapasir reported that of the total annual collections 29 percent or Php 1,138,182,393.87 billion accounted for duties; 69 percent or Php 2,706,120,817.12 billion for Value Added Tax (VAT); and 2 percent or Php 70,498,655.20 million for excise taxes.

Deputy customs collector Marvin Mison added the value of dutiable imports for 2008 compared to 2007 showed an increase by Php 7,305,088,688.60 billion or 32 percent mainly due to the rise in both non-oil and petro products imports.
"The volume of dutiable imports for 2008 compared to 2007 showed an increase by 199,703 metric tons or 11 percent," Mison said, adding these factors helped the District exceeds its 2008 revenue collection target.

"Guwapo gyud ni nga performance namo ang 2008 kay mi-exceed man kita ug over One Million. We hope we can collect more in the next few months," the deputy customs collector said.

He said he is thankful for the support given by businessmen because this is also the main factor why they were able to exceed target.
He also thanked the leadership of Customs Collector Macapasir and the BOC collectors for their efforts in following up the revenue collections from these businessmen.
"Dako usab ang atong pasalamat sa atong mga revenue collectors tungod kay dako ang atong achievement this year," Mison told the media during an exclusive interview in his office.

Mison also said BOC-10 is number 2 in revenue collections in the whole country as the number one top collecting agency is Manila International Container Port.
Chona Sarte BOC's assistant chief for the assessment department also said she is also happy with the increase in revenue collection as this would mean the personnel of the agency is doing its mandate to help the government collect more taxes and revenues.

"If we can collect more revenues the national government will also convert this into more projects for the people," Sarte said.
She said One Billion increase in revenue for BOC-10 is really a job well done especially on the leadership of district collector Abedin Macapasir and deputy customs collector Marvin Mison.

Sarte said she is also hoping the revenue collectors of the agency would continue their excellent job in revenue collection for another increase in 2009.
