Carolling contest in Cagayan de Oro City on December 19

Advertise on blogsThe City Tourism Board, SM City Cagayan de Oro and the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office invite all Kagay-anons to witness the Halad sa Pasko: “Bangga Sa Daygon” finals at the SM Atrium, 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009.

Seven (7) public and private elementary schools are competing in the Christmas caroling competition. These include St. Mary’s School - “Young Warm Wishers” choir; Lumbia Central School - “LCS Choir”; West City Central School - “West City Central School Children’s Choir”; Cagayan de Oro Christian School - “The Cherubs Choir”; East City Central School - “Silangan Glee Club”; Kauswagan Central School - “KCS Children’s Choir” and Iponan Elementary School - “Iponan Elementary School Children’s Choir”.

The first prize winner will receive P25,000.00 in cash prize plus trophy while the second and third prize winners will receive P20,000.00 and P15,000.00 plus trophies, respectively. Non-winners will get P5,000 consolation prizes for each choral group.

The theme of the presentation is left to the discretion of the choral group based on their own interpretation on how to venerate The Holy Child Jesus without desecrating the Child God, as the object of worship.

The contest piece must be a Tagalog or Visayan Christian song and the choral group will only render a piece, medley or single. The choral group must perform with only live accompaniment and must provide its own musical instruments.

A minimum of 15 singers and a maximum of 30 singers including the instrumentalist. Each group will be given 10 minutes only to perform excluding the entrance and exit. A deduction of two (2) points for every excess minutes will be imposed.

All choral groups are prohibited from using any flammable materials such as fireworks or pyrotechnics. There will be a five (5) point deduction for any group who will violate this provision.

Criteria for judging is 40% voice (tonal quality, blending and discipline), 15% rhythm (timing and precision), 20% choreography (creativity, formation and grace), 15% diction (pronunciation, clarity of words and coordination) and 10% costume (relevance to the theme/concept, choice of color, style and accessories).

In may be recalled that the Halad sa Pasko: Bangga sa Daygon elimination round was held last December 11, 2009 at 4pm in the Atrium, SM City Cagayan de Oro.
