CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY NEWS -- The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (RDRRMC) in Northern Mindanao is set to celebrate National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) this July with the theme “Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan.”
This is in line with Executive Order No. 137 series of 1999, declaring the month of July every year as NDCM, said Ana Cañeda, Regional Director, Office of Civil Defense (OCD-10) and chair, RDRRMC-10.
She said the celebration aims to increase the awareness of Filipinos towards disaster preparedness, mitigation and risk reduction.
In order to make the celebration a meaningful one, Cañeda said government offices, national line government agencies and instrumentalities, civil society organizations, people’s organizations, and the general public are enjoined to take part by hanging streamers in their vicinity, and actively participate in the activities lined-up for the whole month: Holy Mass offering and Continuing Financial Assistance for the victims of tropical storm Sendong; Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) – Conference for External Resources mobilization; Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Advocacy and Information Drive; Building Safety Inspection; Conference on DRR and Warning Dissemination for Media Practitioners; Stakeholders Conference (Launching of National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan); Tree Planting and Growing; Lessons Learned Workshop (in the aftermath of TS Sendong); Rescue Olympics; and RDRRMC Recognition and Awarding Ceremony.
