Cagayan de Oro City mayor Constantino Jaraula will be awarding some 30 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city with one house each tomorrow November 29, 2008 during a house dedication activity at the city’s relocation site in Barangay Calaanan, this city, a top official of the Oro Habitat Foundation said yesterday.
The houses that will be awarded to 30 persons with disabilities, is a joint project of the city government of Cagayan de Oro, Cagayan de Oro Council of Lions (District 301E) and the Oro Habitat Foundation.
Mariano Nava, Oro Habitat project coordinator said Mayor Constantino Jaraula will personally award the symbolic keys to the beneficiaries of the project during a fitting ceremony which is expected to take place at around 10:00 in the morning.
Each house is constructed on an 80 square meter lot, constructed using bricks and with steel trusses to make it look ideal for PWDs to live. It also has reservations for attic rooms in case the beneficiary would like to add more rooms for visitors.
“Aside from the 30 houses for the disabled persons there are also 13 houses for the women sector that will be jointly awarded during the house dedication ceremonies. All in all there will be 43 beneficiaries who will receive the keys for their brand new houses,” Nava said.
Nava said the activity will be graced also by the member clubs of the Council of Lions who is one of the main partners of the Oro Habitat project for the disabled in the city. The Council of Lions donated One Million Pesos for the realization of the project while the city government also donated the lots.
Meanwhile, Lions International District 310E Past District Governor Celly Gordiel said the housing project for persons with disabilities was conceived during her tenure as governor of the district three years ago.
“We are glad this project is now realized and we are able to give a good Christmas gift to our persons with disabilities in the city,” she said.
Gordiel said this is only a start of the many projects in the future that the Lions chapters in the city would like to share to the less fortunate persons.
“We have plans to continue this project for the disabled persons. Hopefully, we can still get international funding for this purpose,” she said.
