Ebdane graces PICE 34th National Convention in Cagayan de Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – DPWH secretary Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr. graced the kick off of the 34th national convention of civil engineers held at the atrium of Limketkai Mall in this city, attended by over 3,000 engineers from all over the country.

In his speech, Secretary Ebdane challenged civil engineers to do its share in nation building and help the country develop and move forward.

He said it would be a gargantuan task of civil engineers to make the country look more progressive and stable when they design very laudable projects with the help of the private sector.

The national convention in the city, which will be from November 27-29, 2008 was jointly hosted by the National Board of Directors, Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental organizations of civil engineers, it was learned.

Engr. Jimmy Caiña, board member of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) Misamis Oriental – Cagayan de Oro said there are now over 3000 registered engineers as of yesterday during the start of the activity.

He said the host organization also expects more participants until tomorrow. “We have already a confirmed participation of over 3,000 and we are expecting more,” the provincial board of the Province of Misamis Oriental also said.
Caiña said the national convention of the country’s civil engineers is an annual activity aimed at giving more updates to practicing engineers as well as in the practice of the profession, updates of the latest technology in civil engineering as well as continuing education of those who have not yet finish their continuing education program.

He said there are also added attraction of the national convention such as golf tournaments, bowling, badminton, and billiards to make the activity more lively and participatory.

“We make this a complete package not only on the continuing education program which is the main focus of the national convention but as well as games, raffles and other activities,” board member Caiña said.

On the other hand, Cagayan de Oro City mayor Constantino Jaraula also thanked the host organization for making the national convention successful in the city.
He said the success of the national convention is also a success of the city so that it can be showcased in many other ways.
