Milo Little Olympics 2008 kicks off with a big bang!

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines - This year's edition of the Milo Little Olympics kicked off with a grand opening on November 21, 2008, starting at 1p.m. at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.

The biggest and well attended opening ceremony was graced by Nestle Manila executives like Pat Goc-ong, Cathy Arguelles and Renee Renegocio and also its regional sales manager for Northern Mindanao, Mark V. Francisco.

The grand opening started with the traditional parade of athletes and featured highlights such as cheerdance and other competitions.
The two-day sporting spectacle on November 22-23, 2008 were held at different venues around the city since the main venue in the past Milo Olympics – the Pelaez Sports Complex is undergoing an 80 million facelift to be able to hold the national qualifying games in December.

Over 50 schools from the Mindanao region competed in the elementary and secondary divisions including those coming from Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, General Santos City, Davao City, Misamis Occidental, Davao Sur, Davao Oriental, Cotabato areas and other provinces and cities in Mindanao.

"Every year the Milo Little Olympics brings fan and enjoyment among sporting school children and this is also a good physical exercise for them too, said tournament organizer Megdonio “Megs” Llamera during an interview the other day.
Llamera said this is also his 11th year as Milo Little Olympics event organizer for the Mindanao league as well as his 8th year for the Milo Marathon.

“I am very happy that Nestle Philippines continue to have me as event organizer for this Milo event in Mindanao. This is a big help for our school children to be always associated with Milo sports because this is very important for their growing up years,” he said.

He said the contribution of Nestle Philippines in holding this Olympic every year is very significant as school children should be encouraged into sports to stay fit and healthy.
Winners of this year’s opening ceremony competitions were as follows:
Best in Marching Saludo (elementary): 1st place, Tagoloan Central School; 2nd place, City Central School, 3rd place, Bulua Central School. For secondary: 1st place, MOGHS; 2nd place, Liceo de Cagayan University; 3rd place, Carmen National High School.

Loudest Cheer (elementary): 1st place, City Central School, 2nd place, Tagoloan Central School; 3rd place, Cagayan de Oro Holy Infant School. For secondary: 1st place, MOGHS; 2nd place, Cagayan de Oro National High School; 3rd place, International School.

Biggest delegation (elementary): 1st place, City Central School; 2nd place, Tagoloan Central School and 3rd place Bulua Central School. For secondary: 1st place, MOGHS; 2nd place, Carmen National High School; 3rd place, Cagayan de Oro National High School.

Most Discipline (elementary): 1st place, Tagoloan Central School; 2nd place, City Central School; 3rd place, Ateneo de Davao. For secondary: 1st place, MOGHS; 2nd place Carmen National High School; 3rd place, Liceo de Cagayan High School.
Cheerdance (elementary): 1st place, Iligan City East Central School; 2nd place, Tagoloan Central School; 3rd place, La Salle Academy, Iligan City. For secondary: 1st place, Angeles Sisters National High School-CDOC; 2nd place Colegio de Santo Niño de Jasaan; 3rd place, Butuan City School of Arts and Trade.
