Cagayan de Oro’s Second District representative Rufus Rodriguez inducted the other day the charter officers of the newly formed Mindanao Media Advocates for Environment Preservation (MMAEP)
Congressman Rodriguez also acted as special guest of the activity held at the compound of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources regional office (DENR-10). First District representative Rolando “Klarex” Uy was also invited but was not available for other equally important appointment.
The induction was graced by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources heads led by MMAEP's Guest Speaker, regional executive director Maximo Dichoso and all of his Regional Technical Directors in attendance, including Environment Management Bureau Regional Director Sabdullah Abubacar.
Prior to the induction ceremony, Rodriguez presented to the media all of his environmental projects for 2009 amounting to several millions of pesos. These include greening program, tree planting, Bamboo grass planting at river banks in the 2nd district, mangrove reforestation and his support to R.A.9003 known as Solid Waste Management Act. Rodriguez also committed to allocate budget for the Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF). All of these environmental projects undertaken by the congressman were supervised and supported by DENR-10.
Director Max Dichoso, in his speech, lauded Rodriguez for his program in preserving, conserving and protecting the earth. Dichoso also committed for his best support to the
organization whose main thrust is advocacy for environmental issues and concerns.
The Mindanao Media Advocates for Environment Preservation are composed of active media practitioners all over Mindanao and started their mother club in this city. The group's main task is to organize environment advocates and watchdog in the grassroots dubbed as "MMAEP Green Scouts" and as their tool in advocacy programs. The group will launch a newsletter this month.
Among the group's program is monitoring some environmental concerns and give citations and awards to private and government institutions which have implemented and applied sound environment practices, particularly in the implementation of Materials Recovery Facilities.
Its vision is also to enhance environment advocacy utilizing their expertise in media practice as a great tool for quality implementation of laws and practices in preserving and protecting Mother Earth for the future generations.
MMAEP's chartered members are composed of tri-media practitioners in Cagayan de Oro City and
Misamis Oriental as its mother club and soon will invite all media practitioners all over Mindanao to join their environmental advocacies and urge them to organize in their own locality.
