Oro Chamber partners with LTO on traffic adjudication forum

In maintaining the city’s peace and order, the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Foundation, Inc. (Oro Chamber), in partnership with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region X, conducted a forum on “Traffic Rules and Adjudication” on January 22, 1:30-04:30pm at the Oro Chamber Business Development Centre, Macapagal Drive, Upper Carmen, this city.

“Investors are taking into consideration the peace and order condition in any location that they would want to invest into,” Oro Chamber President Rudy Meñes said.

“Moreover, we believe that a well disciplined and improved traffic conditions will help in making our very own Cagayan de Oro City a livable and competitive city,” he added.

Around 60 member companies listened to LTO 10 Regional Director Porcawa Dia who discussed the achievements and measures done by the agency in improving the traffic condition of the city and in the region.

Mr. Ferdinand Flores, Acting Legal Officer of LTO 10 gave emphasis on the different violations, exemptions and requirements such as failure to give way, parking, reckless driving, damages to public property and use of helmet among others that drivers should seriously consider because such will ensure road safety.

He also said that for any accident, it is mandated by law that the driver should assist the victim/s and call for help.

The participants were also given the chance to ask questions during the open forum where the problem on the “pakyaw” system at Lumbia airport was answered by the Chief for Law Enforcement Mr. Andrew Tupag.

He assured them that LTO is aware of the problem and LTO have conducted several operations against these taxi operators and colorum vehicles. He added that one way to stop this kind of abuse is to submit a formal complaint to LTO as this is also the problem at the pier area in which PUJs are charging P15 to passengers going out of the pier.

He also said that LTO is strictly against the classic case of “suhol” which is evidently rampant on the road and encouraged everyone not to yield to this kind of abuse in which Atty. Dominador Awiten, Chief for Operations Division said to report any acts to the agency for proper disciplinary actions.

Further, Mr. Tupag explained to the participants that all “dakop” is being guided by an operational plan. “Matingala mo nga usahay ang amu dakpon kanang mga Bugo Liner lang..dili mi gapamili ana, nagpasabot lang nga ang target sa among operasyon anang panahuna tanan Bugo Liner nga naay violation sa accessories ba kaha ug uban pa,” he said in vernacular.

Mr. Flores also reminded the participants that to stop corruptions on the road and minimize traffic accidents, all drivers should have self-discipline and respect for the laws because the law is for everyone’s safety, convenience, comfort and general welfare and its always better be safe than be sorry.

“The Oro Chamber is thankful to LTO 10 for their time and effort and to our members who are here…We are continuously looking ways on how to help improve our economic situation.

We are optimistic that thru the different forums we are conducting every month, the business community is more equipped, ready and vigilant on the different issues that may engulf them,” was Oro Chamber President Rudy Meñes’ parting words to everyone
