Basura caravan starts in Cagayan de Oro to Mindanao

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—Dialogues and interaction among members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) top the list of activities during the Zero Basura Caravan on July 3, 2009, at Pryce Hotel, this city.

To be attended by almost 200 local chief executives from Northern Mindanao, the Caraga Region and the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the caravan aims to empower and promote the interconnectivity of the LMP provincial chapters and strengthen their local action through Health FOUR mula One.

“This is actually the 13th cluster of the caravan after those of the Luzon and Visayas regions and the 14th cluster will take place on July 9 for those of Regions XI and XII,” Atty. Ernesto Adobo, J r., Regional Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), region 10, said.

He also said the highlights of the Green Movement Agenda-Strategy for Local Action (GMA-SLA) including laymanizing SWM strategies, the DENR 2009 thrusts and status of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) in the region will be presented during the occasion.

Expected to give the opening remarks is Mayor Ramon N. Guico, Jr., who is the LMP National President while the closing remarks will be given by Secretary Hermogenes Asperon, Jr of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS).

The open forum will also be facilitated by the following: Health Undersecretary David Lozada for the topic on health and DENR Asst. Secretary Gerardo E. Calderon for Local Government Concerns and Lands and Executive Director of the National SWM Commission.

Also expected to discuss the “Pusong Makakalikasan” Award is DENR Secretary Lito Atienza and the DOH F1 for Health by Betty C. Versola, Sangguniang Bayan Member of Luna, Apayao.
