Don’t Be Shy; Face Your Fears

The feeling of shyness that some people experience when attending social events can be considered normal because it is practically the body’s response to things that a person is exposed to, unexpectedly.

When a person is put in an unexpected situation, he/she would feel shy and sometimes, will become anxious and fearful. He/she would experience sweating, muscle cramps and will become nervous. However, after a while, the person will eventually feel calm once he/she will be able to process the situation well. In no time, he/she can blend in with the rest of the crowd.

It is completely normal to feel shy sometimes. This normal shyness has no effect on a person’s well-being. However, if the person can’t handle the shyness feeling and will affect his/her personal development, it is no longer healthy. The person must do something to overcome his/her shyness.

If you are one of those who find hard to handle your extreme shyness, here are a few tips to consider, which can help you increase your self-confidence and become a social fanatic.

Determine what causes your shyness. Why do you feel shy in the first place? The shyness you feel would not appear as it is without a direct reason so you have to know what is the root cause of your shyness. Do you feel shy because you fear that you can’t jive with the other people in the crowd? Do you feel shy because you know very well that you are not a good conversationalist? Do you fear you will not be accepted by other people because you feel you are not good enough and don’t have any skill to boast of? Knowing what causes your shyness can help you determine the best solution to overcome it.

Many shy people avoid attending social events because they fear they can’t handle well any form of conversation. But talking is not the only way to converse. A good conversation involves talking and listening. If you don’t know what to say, just lend your ears. Listen to what the other person is saying and respond if necessary. Listening is the best way of showing respect to anyone who is talking.

If you don’t know how to start a good conversation, practice through self-talking.

Imagine you are in an event with many people. Talk to these people as if they are around. Discuss any topic that comes into your mind. It could be about politics, health, social events or entertainment. The important thing is you will know how to handle the discussion and apply it in actual situations.

Some shy people are imaginative. Their minds are full of thoughts and emotions that are sometimes negative. This makes the shyness feeling become worse. The only solution to this is to always think positive.

Having negative thinking would not do any good to you. If you always think that you are shy, psychologically, you will really become extremely shy. But if you think the opposite, you will realize that there is nothing to be shy about.
