Serums Helps Control The Aging Process

Almost all beauty conscious individuals would know the difference between a serum and a cream or ointment. Because if they don’t, they can never find the correct personal care product that is perfect for their needs.

Some personal care products come in the form of a serum, particularly those that are used on the skin.

Most consumers prefer serums because these absorb fast and easily penetrate the skin, giving instant and effective results. But there are other people who use serums in addition to creams or lotions.

Serums are effective in erasing wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. These are also used to treat skin dryness, pigmentation and dark spots.

Most serums contain the most common and effective anti-aging ingredients, particularly anti-oxidants like vitamin C, E and A or retinol, peptides, kojic acid which works to brighten the skin, and other active ingredients.

Serums are particularly attractive to beauty conscious individuals because most are water-based and don’t contain oil. And when applied on the skin, the water doesn’t evaporate because serums leave out moisturizing ingredients like petrolatum or mineral oil. These ingredients keep the water from evaporating.

Beauty experts say serums are the perfect product for people who have oily skin because these don’t contain oil-based ingredients.

Ni'Kita Wilson, a cosmetic chemist who is the vice president for research and innovation of Englewood Lab, has this to say on serums: “The beauty of a serum is that most of thefluid is eliminated so what you're left with is a high concentration of active ingredients."

Wilson personally uses serum for her own skin care regimen. "It works better for my oily skin, and it has every ingredient I need," she says.

Wilson says the ingredients used in most serums are “the true workhorses of any product line."

The skin absorbs serums quickly and deeply because they are made of very small molecules, making it very effective.

Serums are very light – even much lighter than moisturizers -- so the active and concentrated ingredients can easily and quickly penetrate even the deepest layers of the skin.

Among all other skin care products, serums are the most expensive because of the active ingredients they contain, which are also more expensive than the thickeners used in creams and lotions.

But even if serums are expensive, consumers can save in the process because with correct usage and dosage, one bottle of serum can last for months.

Health experts say serums are applied in tiny amounts, just right for the users’ needs because one drop is concentrated and is very effective.

A pack of serum mostly comes with pump bottles or droppers as applicators so the users can dispense just the right amount of serum on their skin.

With the effectivity and quick results that serums give, it is no wonder most consumers prefer to use these than creams and lotions.
