Officials at the Bureau of Customs in Northern Mindanao reported the other day they have already exceeded its target for this year with their total collection as of September 23, 2008 amounting to P2,917,687,234.00.
Marvin Mison, deputy collector of the Bureau of Customs said their collection target for this year is only P2.8 Billion. "Right now we have an excess collection of Eighteen Million Pesos (P18-M)," he said.
He said from September 24 to December collection, this will be considered excess collection already considering they have already reached their target collection for this year.
"We have reached this target collection because of our individual clients and businessmen who are willing to transport/import and export their goods for business and other purposes," the deputy collector said.
Mison said despite of the continuing offensive of government troops in Central Mindanao against Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels they are not affected because Northern Mindanao is a very stable region as far as peace and order condition is concerned.
"Bisan pag nay giyera sa ubang bahin sa Mindanao but we are not affected in our collections because we have ports in Ozamiz, Iligan and Mindanao International Container Port in Cagayan de Oro, where businessmen can easily drop and ship their products and other goods."
BOC-10 customs collector Abedin Macapasir said his district is the top collection agency of the government in Mindanao and this year is the biggest collection so far in the history of BOC 10.
Macapasir said BOC 10 now ranks number 2 best collecting agency all over the country. The BOC 10 is second to BOC San Fernando which has an average collection of 69.5 percent collection, while BOC 10 has 44.9 percent from January to July 2008 revenue collection only.
Last year the BOC 10 also reported an excess collection of Three Hundred Million Pesos, it was learned.
Among the highest contributor of the total collections were multi-national companies in the region such as Del Monte Philippines, Nestle Philippines, among others.
