Cagayan de Oro City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-X and SM Cagayan de Oro City launched this week the “Share Your Extras” Project, an annual joint program of the two institutions advocating the public to donate cash or in kind donations for DSWD clients.
In its 3rd year of implementation, the “Share Your Extras” Project has installed a drop-in center inside the SM Mall in Cagayan de Oro City, where people can send their donations.
The in-kind proceeds of the Project will be given to DSWD’s clients at the Home for Girls and Regional Haven for Women, while the cash donations are to be used for the centers’ operational expenses.
As of February 3, 2009, there are 56 clients at the Home for Girls, a residential facility for female minors who are sexually abused and exploited, while there are 22 female adults and 26 minors at the Regional Haven for Women, also a residential facility for disadvantaged women who are victims of forced prostitution, illegal recruitment, sexual abuse, armed conflict, and battery.
The “Share Your Extras” Project fosters the values of the public to be aware of the said institutions and to help the residential facilities and its clients through their donations. (Glofelia J. Uayan, SWO III)
