Cagayan de Oro City - The “Fish for Life”, the First National Fisherfolk Technology and Livelihood Festival, spearheaded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in collaboration with the National Anti-Poverty Commission’s Artisanal Fisherfolk Sector (NAPC-AFSC) and fisherfolk organization Pambansang Alyansa ng mga Mangingisda at Pamunuan ng Organisasyon, Incorporated (PAMPANO, Inc.), was recently launched at Cha-li Beach Resort in Cagayan de Oro City in celebration of the Farmers and Fisherfolks month.
The activity, which runs from May 3-6, is a conference and technology exhibit designed to provide leaders and students and other interested parties a venue for exchange of technological advances, micro-financing schemes and other possible sources of credit for livelihood ventures.
Atty. Malcolm I. Sarmiento, Jr., the BFAR National Director, stressed out that this workshop is conducted to increase people’s awareness and to introduce new technologies for fisherfolks to make their lives better.
A total of 150 participants are expected to benefit from the technology presentations, most of them representing fisherfolk organizations, women’s group and other interested organizations.
The speakers include highly-trained fishery technologists from various BFAR national centers in Bonuan, Munoz, Pagbilao, and Tanay and the research operation centers of the BFAR National Fisheries Research Development Institute.
Meanwhile, experts from government and private sectors will speak in micro-financing and other credit sources.
The theme of the 3-day event is “Kabuhayan para sa Kaunlaran at Kasaganaan”.
