NorMin gains P63M from mining industry in 2008

Cagayan de Oro City – A total sales of P63.04 million in various mineral products have been noted in Northern Mindanao by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB, DENR), last year.

These products include the metallic minerals, namely: Copper, Copper Ore, Chromite and Manganese, as well as the non-metallic minerals such as, Sand and Gravel, Phyllite Schist, Limestones, Boulders, Silica Quarts, Volcanic Slabs, Guano Collection, Shale and Pozzolan.

Data gathered by MGB in the region show that the highest sales of P26.95 million was posted by Misamis Oriental (MisOr), followed by Camiguin, P14.84 million, Bukidnon, P14.09 million, Lanao del Norte, P2.76 million, Misamis Occidental (MisOcc), P2.55 million and Cagayan de Oro City, P1.86 million.

Regional Director Juanito Manzano of MGB Region 10 said a total production of 628,911.50 cubic meters of minerals was also extracted in the region in 2008 with MisOr posting the highest production of 258,272 cu.m., followed by Bukidnon, 235,719 cu.m., Cagayan de Oro, 84,114 cu.m., Lanao del Norte, 20,572 cu.m., MisOcc, 18,028.50 cu.m. and lowest in Camiguin with 12,205 cu.m.

Meanwhile, the region posted a total of P9.82 million in extraction fees during the year, with MisOr again, posting the highest extraction fee of P3.85 million, followed by Bukidnon, P2.35 million, Cagayan de Oro, P1.70 million, Camiguin, P1.57 million, Lanao del Norte, P268,293 and MisOcc, P90,507.70.

Likewise, a total excise tax of P1.27 million was collected from the industry with MisOr, again, posting the highest excise tax of P549,522.10, followed by Camiguin, P296,853.31, Bukidnon, P281,782.80, Lanao del Norte, P55,111.07, MisOcc, P50,984.54 and lowest in Cagayan de Oro, P37,139. 72.
