CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—Policy advocacy to improve the city’s competitiveness including that of the Northern Mindanao region have been the priority of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (Oro Chamber).
This was stressed by Rodolfo Meñes, Oro Chamber President, who said this move is very important to help both business and country survive the global economic crisis, during its 2nd quarter general assembly held at Grand Caprice Restaurant, this city.
“By policy advocacy, we zero in on the members’ various tax concerns, including those on zonal valuation, labor and wages, traffic, garbage, information communication and technology (ICT) and other factors in doing business not only in the city but also of the entire region,” he said.
Meñes also said he is happy that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in the region has approved their request to re-study the zonal rates of the region and encouraged the members to attend the tax briefings conducted by BIR on the software and prescribed format of the required Quarterly Summary Lists of Sales and Purchases.
Upon Oro Chamber’s request, the city government has agreed to review the fair market value of the real properties, as well, as to improve the traffic at some of the city’s major thoroughfares.
“What is needed,” the Oro Chamber President said, “is to follow up the assignment of more traffic enforcers in these areas to maintain a smoother traffic flow and the installation of more readable traffic signs and lights.”
Meanwhile, at least 12 new members of Oro Chamber have taken their membership oath, bringing its total membership to 356, as of the occasion. These are the following:
