Cagayanon lass wins 'Singing Ambassador' title

A local singing sensation from Cagayan de Oro City was adjudged as the “Singing Ambassador of Northern Mindanao” during yesterday’s final competition held at the Atrium in SM City Cagayan de Oro.

Jurillyn Mae Z. Padios, a senior Development Communication (DevCom) student of Xavier University, bested 14 contestants who represented different local government units all over the region to claim the title as the “Singing Ambassador of Northern Mindanao” (female category), an elated City Tourism Officer Imma Rae D. Gatuslao revealed.

For her feat, Padios took home the P10,000 cash prize for the top winner, including an overnight-stay-for-two at the Hotel Koresco and travel to the scenic paradise island of Camiguin.

As the “Singing Ambassador of Northern Mindanao,” Padios is expected to represent and promote the top tourism destinations and potentials of the region by showing her singing prowess in local, national and even, international competitions and tourism-related activities, Gatuslao said.

Not to be outdone, another Cagayanon, Sheena Jane J. Bautista, a nursing student of Cagayan de Oro College-Phinma, bagged the second place honor in the female category and got a P7,000 cash prize and an overnight stay at the VIP Hotel.

In the male category, Business Administration student Ralph B. Ramos of Capitol University was also adjudged as second placer and received P7,000 cash prize, plus an overnight stay at the VIP Hotel.

Top winners also received assorted gift items courtesy from fastcraft firm Paras Sea Cat.

The region-wide singing competition that drew participation from the ‘best of the best” singers from all over Northern Mindanao is part of the Tourism Week celebration spearheaded by the Department of Tourism (DOT), region 10 in coordination with various city and municipal tourism officers and supported by SM City Cagayan de Oro.
