Cagayan de Oro mayor lures US-based Cagayanons to invest in the city

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino “Tinnex” Jaraula has lured Cagayanons who are now based in the Unites States of America to invest in the city even as he rebuilt ties with Cagayanon families and friends during the just-concluded “Tapok 2009” held in New York and New Jersey areas.

While reuniting and rekindling with the US-based Cagayan de Oro City natives, Mayor Jaraula updated them on his developmental thrusts and flagship programs and projects during a business presentation on the city’s investment opportunities on October 3 at the Sheraton Newark Airport Hotel in New Jersey.

Topping Mayor Jaraula’s investment presentation is the implementation of what he called as ‘interior decoration’ projects such as: a) the “Golden Mile” riverbank development project; b) construction of the modern legislative and administrative building at City Hall and a 30-storey City Center; c) City Amphitheater redevelopment project; d) massive construction of drainage system; e) construction of the New Agora Complex, among others.

“Tapok 2009” is an annual gathering of Cagayanons and Misamisnons who resides in the US and elsewhere in the world centering on the theme: “Global Convergence, Individuals Make A Difference…Friends Coming to the Aid of Neighbors”.

It was graciously hosted by the Kagay-anon International - East Coast Chapter (KI-ECC) headed by its president Chita Roa-Marquez from October 1 to October 4, this year.

The four-day Tapok 2009 kicked off on October 1 with “The First Encounter” at the Sheraton Newark Airport Hotel in New Jersey where the registration and distribution of souvenir kits to participants was held.

“Tapok Fellowship” opened on October 2 with the Parade of Banners showcasing the various chapters of Kagay-anon International all over the US and around the world, including presentation of various entertainment numbers by the various chapters and groups and the bidding to host Tapok 2011 presided by Tapok Selection Committee chairperson Roy Gaane.

A business presentation and Gala Night, golf tournament and a tour to New York City was held on October 3 while a morning mass and breakfast capped the festivities on October 4.
