Power interruption hits Cagayan de Oro City

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The 100 MVA transformer at the Tagoloan substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) experienced a technical problem last night, resulting in the loss of electricity supply in some parts of Cagayan de Oro City and the northern part of Bukidnon.

The power interruption occurred at 7:10 in the evening.

Jesselito P. Abamonga, District 3 Head, said that power supply was transferred to another substation, enabling the gradual restoration of power in the affected areas in Cagayan de Oro City.

Maintenance and Testing personnel from Iligan City immediately proceeded to Barangay Natumulan in Talogoan where the substation is located to investigate the cause of the problem.

The Iligan Maintenance and Testing team, assisted by local technical and transmission line personnel, fixed the problem straight from last night up to early morning today.

After a successful test run, the transformer was re-energized for commercial operation at 3:50 in the morning, allowing the return of power in affected areas at 4:04 in the morning in Bukidnon through the Bukidnon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BUSECO) 69 KV feeder.

Energization of Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, Inc. (CEPALCO) 69 KV feeder followed at 6:03 AM, normalizing the power supply to the cooperative’s metering point No. 3.

Abamonga assured that Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental will soon experience a more stable and enhanced system reliability with the arrival of additional 100 MVA transformer in Tagoloan substation. The new transformer is ready to be energized anytime soon.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Constantino ‘Tinnex’ Jaraula welcomes Embassy of Switzerland Counsellor & Deputy Head of Mission Juerg Casserini and officials from the Philippine Service of Mercy Foundation and Mainstream Foundation of Manila during a visit on October 15 to assess their partnership project that aims to address the needs of persons with disabilities affected by flashfloods that hit Cagayan de Oro City in January this year.
