CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - At least two of the most influential and biggest private schools in the city have suspended normal classes for ten days each.This, after the Department of Health in the region confirmed at least eight students were hit by the pandemic Influenza A(1H1) virus.
DOH 10 findings confirmed eight students from Xavier University – High School contracted the virus. Xavier University’s director for student affairs, Irene Guitarte immediately released an official statement to the media that classes were immediately suspended in all levels for ten days to prevent the virus from wrecking havoc by spreading further inside the campus.
The director for student’s affair claimed the DOH finding became their solid basis to decide for the immediate suspension of classes just like what other schools and universities in Metro Manila did. The 10-day suspension would also mean planning for massive clean up on the school’s premises to get rid of the virus. Guitarte said classes will be back to normal on July 27.
Another school, Corpus Christi, has also decided to shut down the normal classes for 10 days as a precautionary measure for their elementary and high school students.
But Corpus Christi’s principal, Ma. Corazon del Fiero in a letter sent to parents Thursday said there is no confirmed Influenza A(N1H1) case yet at the school and the suspension of classes is only a precautionary measure.
The principal’s letter, according to sources, confirmed the suspension of classes from July 17 up to July 27 due to confirmed Influenza A virus cases in Cagayan de Oro.
