Free health insurance for 425 Cagayan de Oro families

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—A total of 425 poor families in barangay Puntod this city have benefitted from the city government’s free health insurance program.

This after City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula, along with Vice Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, members of the City Council and Puntod barangay chairman Marvin Beja distributed the Philhealth cards to the recipients during the People to People Program (PPP) held on July 7 at Puntod Elementary School.

The distribution of the 425 Philhealth cards for the poor families-beneficiaries in barangay Puntod is part of Mayor Jaraula’s free health insurance program this year that covers 20,000 recipients.

In his efforts to expand the program and help more indigent city residents, the Chief Executive doubled up the coverage of membership from 10,000 families in 2008 to 20,000 families this year.

Meanwhile, close to 4,000 residents in barangay Puntod have availed of the city government’s basic services during the People to People Program (PPP).

During the one-stop community outreach program, some 1,800 patients benefited from medical consultation and free medicines, aside from feeding 750 parents and children and distribution of 660 packs of assorted goods.

The PPP also served 235 residents on tooth extraction; 70 on birth registration; 62 on mass wedding; 56 on free legal assistance; 55 on free reading on educational materials; 17 on senior citizens’ membership; five on real properties assessment; four on circumcision and anti-rabies vaccination and three on issuance of cedula.

Some 750 assorted fruit tree seedlings and vegetable seeds were also given to farmers and residents. These include 200 packs of sitao seeds, 100 packs each of okra and pechay seeds, 100 seedlings of grafted mango, 150 seedlings of papaya, 50 seedlings of coffee and 50 seedlings of jackfruit.
